And while I was touting having two extra home screens, I still have no idea what to put on them. I've tried browsing around for different widgets to add but haven't been impressed with my finds thus far. But the option to add more as time goes on is very convenient.
The camera now has all the flash, white-lighting, etc settings right on the touch screen instead of in a slideout menu. This is a great feature as the slideout menu was always slow or non-responsive and caused me to purchase the Pro-Zoom app. This app is now useless for me as I can use all the features I needed it for, including a great zoom, in the default camera.
The ability to have specified apps update from the Android Market automatically is a great feature as well, as it cuts down on some of those 9+ update days.
While on the whole there are great updates with this release I have two major gripes to rant about.
The first being the stock messenger service. I liked the black background with the white font as it was easy on my eyes. But they went to a white background with black font and started putting the contact's picture next to every text message. I looked everywhere but there is no way to configure those settings. That became very annoying so I decided to install the Handcent SMS app and am loving it as my default text message app. I would highly recommend it to anyone that doesn't like the new, stock SMS app.
My second gripe is not a fault of the FroYo update but of Verizon's version of it. They did not include the option for a built-in WiFi hotspot, which was one of the top updates I was looking forward to using. So shame on Verizon for once again locking down the phone and not allowing your customers full use of equipment they've purchased. If I hadn't been with your company since 2000 I'd be looking to find a new cell company to switch to.
Overall: I'd say this was a fabulous update to the Android OS and is a must for anyone who has a phone scheduled to receive it. Hopefully this won't be the last update the original Droid is scheduled to receive, as I've heard great things about what's waiting in the wings for the next one.
